As a high-volume site, McDonald’s needed to improve the accessibility of the search bar on the careers website by helping users to find their location quickly and easily, as well as reduce the cost of location requests going to the server.

Previously, the McDonald’s career site only offered one search method where the user had to manually type their location. This impacted the user experience, as results only pulled jobs through from that specific town or city. This meant that users missed out on relevant opportunities where there were nearby jobs in a neighbouring town/city. We needed a way to show results based on distance rather than place name. It was hypothesised that a 'Use My Location' (UML) button would improve accessibility by making the search quicker and easier, while also reducing costs to obtain the same result. It was necessary to test whether users would trust the UML feature and be compelled to click it. To validate this, three different prototypes were designed and tested to ensure users would trust and adopt the new design pattern.
